Captain Kate. Seidl/Bremer. 2013. Suffruticosa with Rockii influence hybrid. The single white-colored flowers open pale pink and quickly fade to white. Deep purple flares bleed into a lighter color. Red sheath and stigmas. Easily fertile both ways. Extremely floriferous. Captain Kate is capable of producing 100+ flowers on mature plants (2024, a display plant produced 131 flowers). Plants are vigorous growers and produce a large, rounded shrub, easily as wide as tall. Stems are woody and hardy, showing no winter damage in Wisconsin. Plants bloom consistently from year to year, and flowers open completely flat. Stems are strong, but are thin and elegant in appearance. Not easily damaged by wind. Foliage is medium green and remains in good shape throughout the entire summer and fall, until leaf drop. It grafts easily, even though few terminal buds are produced. Most blooms are produced on secondary buds along stems. Used as a large landscape specimen at Solaris Farms. (Rock’s Variety x Stalwart Rose). Ships in late September to mid-October. AGE: Field-grown, 3+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
