Demetra. Daphnis. Circa 1986. Advanced generation lutea hybrid. Seedling #: (D-19). Parentage: L-26 x J39 (Shin-tenchi). Double golden flowers on strong stems held well above the foliage. Petals are rimmed with red. Named after the Greek goddess of the earth. No fertility. A truly beautiful cultivar that has a long bloom period due to later stems producing flowers at different times. Foliage is deep blue-green, wide, and often has a glossy appearance. Note: ‘Demetra’ was heavily distributed throughout the world as ‘Golden Mandrin’, which is registered as a single gold flower. Nearly all sources selling ‘Golden Mandarin’ are likely selling ‘Demetra’. Most gardens with plants labeled ‘Golden Mandarin’ are actually ‘Demetra’ due to a mix-up years ago by early propagators and distributors. Ships in late September to mid-October. AGE: Field-grown, 3+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
