Nittany.  Franklin Chow and Angela Fuhui Chow. 2013. Suffruticosa Group. Parentage: from seeds of P. ostii. Selected from a group of 5 peonies received as two year old seedlings from Cao Zhou, China in 2000.   ‘Nittany’ is covered with large (17-19 cm; 7 inch), bright pink flowers, one per stem. Petals are somewhat notched and ruffled and have red flares extending about 40% their length. Carpels are smooth, 5 in number, with pink stigmas. Well developed dark pink sheath. Pollen and seeds. Fragrance. Shows some suckering. Height at maturity 4-5 feet. Named for the Indian maiden of legend whose actions resulted in the formation of Mt. Nittany.  Ships in late September to mid October.  AGE: Field grown, 4+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
