Paeonia ostii ‘seed strains’.  China.  Species.  The P. ostii plants offered are seed grown and are blooming size plants.  Since the origin of these plants is from seed, each will have slightly different plant habits and floral characteristics.  Most open light lavender and quickly fade to white, some will have blush centers to their petals.   Stigmas and filaments will be reddish-violet, contrasting with the soft petal colors.  We’ve selected the plants with the best flower forms to share with our customers and removed any that are inferior.  These are vigorous own root plants and are an outstanding value.  P. ostii enjoys a protected site that drains well and has good air movement.  Over time plants may become large (5 feet high x 6 or more feet wide).  Plants are heavy bloomers and are sure to please.  Additionally, plants typically produce large numbers of seeds which are easily grown.   Not suitable for hardiness zones less than 4b (does best in USDA Hardiness Zones 5-7).  Very drought resistant and does best in locations which do not experience wet winters – that said, easy to grow.  Ships in late September to mid October.  AGE: Field grown, blooming size own-root plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
