Paeonia officinalis sbsps. humulis; (syn. P. officinalis sbsps. microcarpa)Species.  Herbaceous species.  From seed collected in Spain.  Herbaceous.  This subspecies is very compact and produces mounded-type plants.  Approximately 12″-14″ in height.  Leaves are very finely divided, glaucous, and ornamental.  Single blooms are a bright magenta.  Pink stigmas and stamens with yellow anthers.  This subspecies requires very sharp drainage and is intolerant of wet periods.  Slow growing, but well worth the effort. Full sun locations are best. Blooming size divisions. Premium divisions ship late September to mid-October.
