Euterpe. Bremer. 2022. Herbaceous hybrid. Parentage: ‘Carnation Bouquet’ x unknown. Seedling #HH5-18. First bloomed in 2012, first propagated in 2014. SINGLE cream goblet-shaped flowers. Flowers open with a blush of coral and quickly fade to creamy white. The petals are generally rounded, held cupped, and may be lightly notched; the average width of the guards is 2 inches (5 cm). Flower size 5 inches (13 cm). Established plants will produce up to 3 side buds to extend the flowering season. Two to three carpels, pale green, covered in short white hairs. Light coral-pink stigmas add punctuation to the delicate simplicity of the flower. Staminodal disk well-developed, cream color. Pollen-bearing stamens with filaments are cream-yellow. Fertile and much used in the originator’s breeding program to take advantage of its good plant habits. Early foliage is light red on emergence, becoming medium green as it matures. Stems carry flowers completely upright, and no mechanical support is required. Rounded hybrid foliage is carried on stems that reach 32 inches in height (92 cm). Plants are vigorous growers and disease-resistant. Early/Midseason bloom. Premium divisions ship late September to mid-October.
Pronounced yoo · tur · pee, Euterpe was the Titan Goddess of Memory and sister of Calliope in Greek Mythology. She was the goddess of Lyric Poetry. Fittingly named, this plant (‘Euterpe’) is a sibling to Calliope, which has similar floral and plant characteristics.
