Paeonia officinalis variants
Paeonia officinalis. Species. Herbaceous species. Single pink to plum red colored flowers are usually goblet shaped. P. officinalis is a highly variable species and noted differences occur between regional populations. Oddly, this species is not widely grown even though it is of easy culture. Wonderful ornamental deeply lobed foliage. Grown from seed collected in European habitats or purchased as regionally collected divisions. As seed grown plants there is some variability, all are fine looking specimens. Often adventitious root systems. Prefer a dry location during the summer months. Our offering is for blooming size divisions. Read more in each variation’s listing. Premium divisions ship late September to mid October.
