Pietertje Vriend Wagenaar

Pietertje Vriend Wagenaar.  Friend.  Lactiflora cultivar.  A chance seedling found near Kansas and Sarah Bernhardt in the hybridizer’s commercial planting of peonies. Plant is identical to Kansas, red buds, heavy stems. The bloom has the color of Sarah Bernhardt, perhaps a little lighter. The flower is speckled. The foliage is dark green. Named for the hybridizer’s Mother, Pietertje Vriend Wagenaar.  2017 APS Gold Medal Winner, 2018 Peony of the Year.  Outstanding plant habit, health and growth. Premium divisions ship late September to mid October.
