Pietertje Vriend Wagenaar

Pietertje Vriend Wagenaar.  Friend.  Lactiflora cultivar.  A chance seedling found near Kansas and Sarah Bernhardt in the hybridizer’s commercial planting of peonies. The pink flowers are finely speckled with darker pink.  Petals are uniform and beautifully arranged.  Buds have much red in them, and stems are thick and strong.  No mechanical support needed.  Foliage is dark green and provides a wonderful foil for the gorgeous flowers.  2 or 3 side buds are present that prolong the bloom season.  It may be used as a cut flower.   Named for the hybridizer’s Mother, Pietertje Vriend Wagenaar.  2017 APS Gold Medal Winner, 2018 Peony of the Year.  Outstanding plant habit, health, and growth. Premium divisions ship from late September to mid-October.
