Shintenchi

Shintenchi.  (New Heaven and Earth).  Chugai Nursery.  Before 1931.  Baby ribbon pink fading to white near petal edges.  Single flower with darker flares.  Much used in hybridizing for its diverse outcomes in offspring and fertility.  A gorgeous flower.  Plants are not as vigorous as other Japanese suffruticosas, but is highly regarded by collectors.  Fertile both ways and has been used to produce lutea hybrids.  Name translates to:  ‘New Heaven and Earth’.  American Peony Society Gold Medal winner – 1994.
