Alboran Sea. Bremer. 2025. Suffruticosa with P. rockii influence. Parentage: (“Zi Mei Cha Cui” x “Jushi”). Very large ball shaped semi-double (nearly double) flowers of near violet-purple coloration are carried on long stems. One flower per stem. Foliage is deep green and has medium leaflet dissection on medium sized leaves. The large flowers are carried in profusion and their weight causes them to lean outward. Excellent vigor. Plants become large over time and may be expected reach 5 feet in height in Wisconsin (perhaps taller in less rigorous locations) and 6 feet wide. While carriage is not upright as the heavy flowers open, flowers do not lay on the ground. Makes excellent bouquets. A unique cultivar of great beauty. Easily seed fertile. Very winter hardy stems. Named for the coloration of the sea surface of the Alboran Sea (part of the Mediterranean Sea) as the light plays across it at sunset. A show piece and notable in the landscape. Sweet rose fragrance. Ships in late September to mid October. AGE: Field grown, 4+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
