Black Panther

Black Panther.  Saunders.  1948.  F1 lutea hybrid.  Black Panther has very dark ‘black-red’ flowers that are semi-double in form.  Petals are frilled and ruffled and have a shiny sheen.  The deeply colored flowers have an attractive mass of yellow, waxy anthers that contrast.   Plants are very upright growers and are taller than wide.  Height is up to 4.5 feet in Wisconsin, and it has better than average stem hardiness for a lutea hybrid.  This is not a heavy-blooming plant, but it is reliable each year.  Foliage is narrow and irregular.  Always in high demand and rare.  No fertility.
