Black Pirate.  Saunders.  1935.  F1 generation lutea hybrid.  3-4 rows of huge dark red satiny petals. Flares “black” and wide. Filaments very dark. Stigmas bright pink; sheath lilac. Only rare side-buds. Flowers are very dark and have a shiny sheen to them.  Wide deep green foliage.  Excellent.  Not a vigorous plant for us, but worth growing for its stunning flowers.  Stems lack winter hardiness, but produces basal shoots which bloom reliably. No fertility. Rarely available. Ships in late September to mid October.  AGE: Field grown, 4+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
