Forest Shadows. Seidl. 1996. (‘Black Forest’ genetic recombination). Advanced generation lutea hybrid. Has darker flares. Sheath, stigmas and stamens are all dark maroon. Very wide and rounded foliage, which is waxy and deep blue-green. Plants are compact and mound shaped when mature. Flowers are on the smaller side (5 to 6″) in comparison to most other lutea hybrids and are somewhat down facing. The flower is actually much more appealing than its origin plant ‘Black Forest’. Excellent deep coloration. Fertile both ways. Note: Genetic recombinations in lutea hybrids are fairly common and stability of color can fluctuate – thus it is possible for this and other plants prone to this genetic behavior to revert back to the normal donor plant color or some other form. Forest Shadows has been relatively stable, with only one instance of further recombination. (Golden Era x Chinese Dragon). Ships late September to mid October. AGE: Field grown, 4+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
