Gessekai. Translations: “Kingdom of the Moon” or “Glory of the Full Moon”. Chugai. Japanese suffruticosa cultivar. Milky white semi-double flowers, which may open with the slightest blush coloring in some seasons. Petals are highly notched, fringed, and ruffled. Flowers are very large and are carried on long stems. Plants are dwarf, and foliage color is deep green. This plant requires sharp drainage and good air circulation to remain healthy, but is a good grower when needs are met. This plant was distributed heavily under the incorrect name ‘Aphrodite’, which is a lutea hybrid originated by Nassos Daphnis. Later, more incorrectly named stock was received as ‘Ikuhomon’ and has now been matched with correctly named stock in other collections. In any event, this cultivar is extremely beautiful and makes a wonderful addition to the garden. Fertile both ways. Ships in late September to mid-October. AGE: Field-grown, 3+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
