Hestia. (Goddess of the hearth). Daphnis. 1977. Lutea hybrid. Parentage: BC-2; BC-1 self-pollinated. Rich, bright red double, four to five rows of petals, each row evenly arranged, forming complete circles. Petals are rather small in comparison with other hybrids. There is a warm feeling in this flower. Stems nod with heavy blooms and are fragrant. Registered as fertile, but we have not noted this to date. Rare and quite nice. Delicate foliage carried on a lower mounding plant. Seedling # D-273. Part of the Woody Peony Preservation Project. Ships in late September to mid-October. These are 2 year old grafted plants. While plants are relatively small, they have youthful vigor and make wonderful additions to the garden. Plant and grow them as you would older woody peonies.
