Icarus

Icarus.  (Son of Daedalus, First Man To Fly). Daphnis.  1977.    Advanced generation lutea hybrid.  Single, red with two rows of pointed, widely ruffled petals.  Pink-red stigmas, red sheath, and stamens.  A brighter red-orange than Boreas, and the leaves are larger.  Plants grow to about 3 1/2 feet in Wisconsin and are extremely vigorous.  Easy to grow.  No fertility noted, although reported by others.  Very good.  (unnamed F1 x self). Ships in late September to mid-October.  AGE: Field-grown, 3+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
