Kao (2 year graft)

Kao.  Watanabe.  Unregistered historic Japanese suffruticosa cultivar.  Large light dusty purplish-red double.  Heavy blooming on relatively short plants (34 inches in Wisconsin).   Must be grown in well-drained soil with good air movement to remain healthy.   Kao=King of Flowers.  Produces scarce amounts of seed and pollen. Ships in late September to mid-October. These are 2 year old grafted plants.  While plants are relatively small, they have youthful vigor and make wonderful additions to the garden.  Plant and grow them as you would older woody peonies.
