Orion. Saunders. 1948. F1 lutea hybrid. Seedling # 16419.  Saunders’ Golden Hind Group.  Three or more rows of clear yellow ruffled petals that open wide make up the semi-double flowers. Flares and filaments are red. Stigmas and sheath light coral-red.  Plants tend to be mound-shaped.   Stems on this cultivar lean outward and slightly downward, but are never hidden in the foliage. Foliage is dark bronze-red in the early season and provides a beautiful foil for the bright yellow flowers.  As the growing season progresses, foliage becomes dark green with red tinting.   Excellent and quite unusual.  Easy to grow and fast-growing.  Rare and seldom seen in commerce.  Ships in late September to mid-October.  AGE: Field-grown, 3+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
