Redon. Daphnis. Circa 1986. Lutea hybrid. Parentage: (D-21) L 26 x J 39 (Shintenchi). Flowers are semi-double, ruffled, and cream in color, overlaid and picoteed in pink. Petals are of heavy substance and are beautifully ruffled. The overall color presentation is a light peach. Flares are red and bleed out onto petals a short distance. Red sheath and filaments. Named after the painter, Odilon Redon, noted for his vibrant pastels of flowers. This cultivar has the least hardy stems of any of the Daphnis lutea hybrids and loses its stems each year, only to be replaced by basal shoots that bloom in the spring through early summer. Plants only reach 24 inches in height in Wisconsin and have a slightly greater width. Stem habits are relatively poor in that they tend to present flowers close to the ground. A nice-looking plant, but it would likely be more prosperous in areas with mild winter conditions. Recommended for USDA hardiness zone 5 or greater. No fertility. Ships in late September to mid-October. AGE: Field-grown, 3+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
