Selene. Bremer. 2021. Advanced generation lutea hybrid. Parentage: (KC Red x Autumn Harvest). Seedling #NB-SH131. Perhaps the finest lutea hybrid we grow.  Large light creamy-yellow semi-double flowers blushed in the lightest pink. Petals have large deep ruffles with notched edges. Central petals are presented upward creating a full affect. No visible flares on petals, although the bases are light red. Petal arrangement is uniform and appealing. Light red sheath and green carpels. Filaments yellow progressing to red at their bases. Stigmas are medium red in color. One flower per stem, occasionally a side bud. Blooms are carried upward and outward, no support is required. A slight “lutea hook” is evident at the base of the flowers, but does not impact presentation negatively. Large, broad deep green leaves cloth woody stems. Root and crown hardiness is excellent, but this plant is recommended for USDA Hardiness Zones 4B or warmer due to stem loss during poor winter conditions. Plants regenerate from basal shoots to bloom reliably each spring when conditions destroy older stems. Plants reach 36 inches in Wisconsin – probably more in less rigorous climates. Fertile pollen and a better than average seed production with compatible pollen donors can be expected. An exceptionally beautiful plant and flower for shear simplicity. Named for the Greek Goddess Selene, Goddess of the moon.  Ships in late September to mid October.  AGE: Field grown, 4+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
