Seneca Hill Pink. Girton. 2023. Rockii/Suffruticosa Group Hybrid. Fertile both ways. Parentage unknown. Early-blooming, semi-double flowers are an unusual lavender-pink, 17.7 cm (7″) in diameter, upward-facing, and average one per stem. Reddish-purple flares with blurred edges extend approximately 25% of the total petal length. Guard petals are rounded and notched, typically 7.6 cm (3″) in diameter. Faint fragrance. The sheath is partial and pink. Produces pollen in abundance and is also seed-fertile. Plants reach 145 cm (57″) at maturity and carry narrow, pointed, green foliage with purple margins. Growth habit is upright; mechanical support is unnecessary, and the mature plant develops an attractive, vase-like shape. Extremely vigorous and hardy, the plant has rarely experienced stem loss during winter dormancy. The height, floriferous habit, and overall shape make it stand out in the garden landscape. Likely not derived from wild-collected Paeonia rockii seed, as registration indicates, given the obvious Suffruticosa Group traits. An outstanding plant in any case. This plant requires very good drainage and resents excessive moisture. Ships in late September to mid-October. AGE: Field-grown, 3+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
