Shima Nishiki.  (Island Brocade).  Japan.  Japanese suffruticosa.  Semi-double, red and white striped flowers, sometimes all red or pink or pink and red or white, etc…  May bloom all red for a couple of years, only to bloom with striping the next.  A hardy plant, but should be planted in a well-ventilated area to prevent disease from wet/humid conditions.   It will grow to 3.5 feet in Wisconsin and slightly less in width.  Reported as a mutation (actually a result of gene recombination) of the cultivar ‘Taiyo’.  Consistently inconsistent floral coloration. Superior to all other similarly variagated woody peonies.  Fertile both ways. Ships in late September to mid-October.  AGE: Field-grown, 3+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
