Shima Nishiki.  (Island Brocade).  Japan.  Japanese suffruticosa.  Semi-double, red and white striped flowers, sometimes all red or pink or pink and red or white etc…  May bloom all red for a couple of years only to bloom with striping the next.  A hardy plant, but should be planted in a well ventilated area to prevent disease from wet/humid conditions.   Will grow to 3.5 feet in Wisconsin and slightly less in width.  Reported as a mutation (actually a result of gene recombination) of the cultivar ‘Taiyo’.  Consistently inconsistent. Superior to all other floral variegation in woody peonies.  Fertile both ways.  Ships in late September to mid October.  AGE: Field grown, 4+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
