Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt.  Saunders.  1948.  F1 lutea hybrid.  Saunders’ Black Pirate Group.  Seedling #: 13014. Deep red single that opens flat and has nicely ruffled petals.  Pinkish-red stigmas, maroon stamens, and maroon sheath.  A ring of bright yellow anthers is a great contrast to the dark red flower color.  Nice, deeply divided foliage on medium-height plants.  Excellent.  Seed fertility with effort and compatible partners.  Plants grow to 3.5 feet in height and 4 feet in width (Wisconsin).  Woody Peony Preservation Project cultivar.
