Vesuvian. Saunders. 1948. F1 lutea hybrid. Dark semi-double to double red. Outer petals open flat, and inner wavy petals are grouped closely and face forward. Red stigmas, sheath, and stamens. Flowers and plants are much like ‘Age of Gold’, perhaps more of a mound-type structure. No pollen fertility, but will produce an occasional seed through many pollination attempts with suitable partners. Beautiful and a high degree of bloom. Blossoms do hang down on an angle, but are produced on long enough stems to be easily seen and appreciated. Produces mound-shaped plants with finely cut deep green foliage – superior. Parentage unknown. Excellent display and easy grower, one of our very favorites. Ships in late September to mid-October. AGE: Field-grown, 3+ year old graft or division from larger plants – our choice of available plant material upon harvest.
