Xue Lian (Snow Lotus).  China.  Traditional Chinese rockii cultivar. Large single flowers are white with large (wide) maroon flares that bleed out onto petals.  A large number of flowers are produced each year on sturdy – hardy stems.  Highly fertile both ways.  This variety is the cultivated cousin of the wild species tree peony Paeonia rockii which is indigenous to Gansu Province and the surrounding areas of northwest China. P. rockii is named for the American botanical explorer Joseph Rock, who introduced this woody (tree) peony.  See Rock’s Variety or one of the P. rockii selections for a better performing plant.
