Zi Mei Cha Cui (2 year graft)

Zi Mei Cha Cui.  China.  Chinese Gansu Mudan suffruticosa of P. rockii influence. Zi Mei Cha Cui produces large ball-shaped reddish-purple flowers carried on arching stems (not on the ground).  Dark rockii-type flares are hidden by the numerous petals.  Plants reach 5 feet after 10  years and 6 to 8 feet in width.  Excellent long leaves.  Stems are very winter hardy and have survived -30°F temperatures only to bloom the following spring.  Very attractive and always a showpiece.  Gansu-mudan are Chinese rockii lineage hybrids.  Recommended for cold winter climates. Ships in late September to mid-October. These are 2 year old grafted plants.  While plants are relatively small, they have youthful vigor and make wonderful additions to the garden.  Plant and grow them as you would older woody peonies.
